Today, we want to share the heartwarming stories of two remarkable young boys, Hunter and Carlos, and their incredible journey to a brighter future thanks to the support of our program.
Helping Hunter and His mom
One day, at a power soccer practice, we had the privilege of meeting Karen, a single mother who has a beautiful teenage son named Hunter, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As Hunter grew older, his condition made it increasingly difficult for Karen to safely lift him. Witnessing her struggle, we knew we had to step in and offer our assistance through the Walking Strong program.
Karen, like many others in her situation, was unaware of the remarkable Molift, an electric Hoyer lift that can safely transport individuals who cannot walk into various places, such as a bed, shower chair, or wheelchair. It was clear that Hunter and Karen could benefit greatly from this life-changing assistive device. With our guidance and support, Karen applied for assistance through Walking Strong, and we swiftly connected with George at Sherman Oaks Medical Supply to secure the Molift at the best possible price.
Helping Carlos and His Mom
Meanwhile, another mother named Karen, residing in Riverside, reached out to us for help. Her son, Carlos, was 20 years old and also in need of an assistive lift device. The challenges facing Carlos and his family were similar to Hunter’s situation. Karen and Carlos were managing on their own, and Carlos was getting increasingly anxious every time his parents went to lift him. One fall and break for a Duchenne boy could be catastrophic and life-threatening. As for parents lifting a boy over 100 pounds is also very dangerous for them and their own bodies.
